Telugu Film Chamber Clarifies on Theatre Shutdown Rumors

In response to ongoing speculation regarding the potential closure of theatres in the Telugu states, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has issued an official clarification.

Chamber Secretary K.L. Damodar Prasad addressed the media following a meeting held on Monday with prominent producers, exhibitors, and distributors from both states. He stated that the rumors about theatres shutting down from June 1st are completely baseless and not true.

He explained that the meeting was convened to address challenges currently faced by the theatrical sector. Discussions were held to identify solutions, and it was confirmed that a committee representing producers, exhibitors, and distributors will be formed during the upcoming Executive Committee meeting on May 30 to work toward resolving these issues.

He urged the public and media to rely only on official updates from the Film Chamber or its affiliated bodies, and not to believe or spread unverified news, which could harm the industry. He also stated that if necessary, the Chamber will hold discussions with the government, as was done in the past for similar concerns.

Damodar Prasad firmly denied rumors suggesting that any specific film release is being targeted or that a theatre shutdown is being planned in protest. The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to addressing industry challenges constructively and moving forward.

Attendees included: Prasanna Kumar, Sridhar, Sudhakar Reddy, Shiva Prasad Rao, Bharat Bhushan, Venkateswara Rao, Sunil Narang, Anupam Reddy, Bharat Chowdary, T.S. Ramprasad, C. Kalyan, Muthyala Ramadas, M. Sudhakar, among others.
