To encourage the cultivation of pulse crops, the government is distributing seeds at a subsidized rate to farmers under the National Food Security Mission (NFSM). On Monday, subsidized red gram (tur dal) seeds were distributed to farmers at the Mandal Agriculture Office under this scheme.

Officials encouraged farmers to cultivate red gram using these subsidized seeds and also to reproduce seeds for future use. Cotton farmers were advised to grow red gram as an intercrop, as it not only enhances soil fertility but also contributes to better organic carbon levels due to its heavy leaf shedding.

Red gram also has the ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen in the soil, enriching it naturally. Therefore, growing it as an intercrop with cotton can improve soil health and productivity. Agriculture Officer Sushma, Extension Officers Shankar and Venkatesh, and several farmers participated in the event.
