Press Note: A Responsible Appeal to Media on Swetcha's Case

To all media heads and digital content creators,
We, as women journalists, sincerely appeal to all media platforms to exercise restraint and responsibility in covering the tragic death of Swetcha.
Several TV and YouTube channels are sensationalizing this deeply sensitive issue for views, compromising the dignity of the victim and her family. Some are even pulling the grieving family into public spaces, which serves no purpose in seeking justice.
Let us remind ourselves: the role of the media is to report, not investigate or act as law enforcement. Legal procedures must be respected and left to the authorities.
It is also alarming that multiple platforms have violated media ethics and Press Council guidelines, especially when dealing with minors. Uploading and circulating videos or photos of Swetcha’s daughter is a direct breach of ethical standards and legal norms. We strongly urge all such content to be immediately removed from YouTube and other platforms.
We plead: Do not sensationalize Swetcha’s death. Don’t silence her again in the name of “freedom.” This appeal is not just for Swetcha, but for the protection of all women and children in public discourse.
We also request the police and government to conduct a fair and transparent investigation and deliver justice.
Let’s use our voices responsibly—as protectors of truth, not exploiters of grief.
