Genelia Deshmukh Returns to South Cinema with Junior After 13 Years

Actress Genelia Deshmukh is all set to make a grand comeback to South Indian cinema with the upcoming youth entertainer Junior, marking her return after nearly 13 years. Directed by Radha Krishna, the film features debutant Kriti Reddy in the lead role and is produced by Rajini Kurapati under the prestigious banner Varahi Chalana Chitram. The film is scheduled for a grand release on July 18.

Speaking at the press meet, Genelia shared her excitement and insights about her role in Junior:

"The story came to me about three years ago. Initially, I was unsure, but after Ritesh heard it and encouraged me to take a closer look, I became convinced. This is a completely different character—something I’ve never done before. I’ve always chosen diverse roles, but this one truly stands out."

She further added that working with music director Devi Sri Prasad (DSP) and cinematographer Senthil Kumar was a special experience.

Talking about her character, Genelia said:

"From the trailer, it may seem like a serious role, but it's actually a strong, layered character with many emotional and interesting transitions."

Genelia also praised her co-star Kireeti Reddy:

"He’s a brilliant dancer and extremely hard-working. It was great collaborating with him."

On fellow actress Sri Leela, she said:

"She’s an amazing dancer and brings infectious energy to the set."

She also thanked producer Sai Korrapati for backing the project without any compromises:

"The film has been made on a grand scale, and it shows his passion and commitment."

Looking ahead, Genelia expressed her openness to meaningful roles:

"I’m open to doing strong, memorable characters—even if they are brief. Impact matters more than screen time."

She also revealed plans to reunite with Ritesh Deshmukh:

"We’re working together on the remake of Majili, which is shaping up beautifully. If another soulful love story comes along, we’d definitely love to collaborate again."

Genelia concluded with heartfelt anticipation:

"I can't wait for audiences to see me in this new light. I’m excited and really looking forward to July 18. Thank you all for the love and support."
