"8 Vasantalu" – A Tale of Love That Misses the Mark

ree

Phanindra Narsetti, known for his cult short films and the experimental Manu, returns after seven years with 8 Vasantalu, a romantic drama featuring Ananthika Sanilkumar and Hanu Reddy in lead roles. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, with music by Hesham Abdul Wahab, the film hit the screens on May 20, 2025.

Story Overview:The film follows Shuddhi Ayodhya, a strong and independent woman, who falls in love twice—first with an NRI in Ooty, and later with a poet named Sanjay. As her life moves forward, unexpected twists and emotional conflicts shape her journey of love, loss, and rediscovery.

Highlights:

  • Ananthika Sanilkumar delivers an expressive and grounded performance as Shuddhi.

  • Hanu Reddy impresses with natural screen presence.

  • Music by Hesham Abdul Wahab and cinematography by Vishwanath Reddy elevate the film visually and emotionally.

Shortcomings:

  • Ravitheja Duggirala as Sanjay is miscast; his limited acting range affects the emotional depth.

  • The second half suffers from a drop in production quality and inconsistent character writing.

  • Overly dramatic dialogues and weak supporting cast performances dilute the impact.

Verdict:While 8 Vasantalu begins on a promising note with soulful music, relatable romance, and beautiful visuals, it loses steam in the latter half due to casting issues and narrative inconsistency. Phanindra Narsetti’s attempt to blend poetic storytelling with mainstream emotions ends up feeling disjointed. A stronger script and cast could’ve made all the difference.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️¼ (2.25/5)
